Dance Competitions | CONGO

As part of the ‘Femmes et Hommes, progressions ensemble’ project, the sister organisation of compagnie Dakar, Arts en Actions (RDC Congo) produced 16 dance shows on Gender-Based Violence with 16 groups of young dancers in 32 schools in different municipalities in Kinshasa. The shows were part of awareness raising on gender-based violence (GBV), supported by UNICEF/EU and the Ministry of Gender, Family and Children – entitled “Femmes et Hommes, progressions ensemble”. In total 240 young dancers were trained, performed 32 spectacles in 32 secondary school institutions in Kinshasa, reaching more than 25.000 youth, in a mindshift campaign in which trained youth sensitized their peers, using high quality contemporary dance. The project finished with a televised dance competition between the schools in the Zoo theatre in Kinshasa.

One of the partners of compagnie Dakar, Le Grand Cru Global, trained 16 young choreographers from the National Institute of Arts and contemporary dance groups, who created 16 high quality dance performances on different themes linked to frequent gender based violence violations, such as sexual harassment and rape of girls in school environments and professional environments, child marriages, hereditary rights, deprivation of education for girls etc. The project was part of a major UNICEF/EU awareness campaign, carried out by Arts en Actions, and consists of a country wide awareness campaign, with a 20 episode TV series on 5 national TV stations, more than 80 radio programs on radio stations in all provinces, more than 100 theater shows, 100 mobile cinema screenings and a musical comedy show which toured in 8 municipalities of the city ​​of Kinshasa.
